Author Bio:  Dr. John MacArthur is pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church. Following in the steps of his father, Dr. Jack MacArthur, John represents five successive generations of pastors in his family. He is also president of The Master’s College and Seminary and is heard daily on "Grace to You," a nationally syndicated radio broadcast. The Grace to You ministry has distributed more than 10 million audiocassettes of his messages. John is also the author of many books, including The MacArthur New Testament Commentary series, The Gospel According to Jesus, and the newly-released The MacArthur Study Bible.Found: God's Will

Type in “God’s Will” into Google and you will return about 3,620,000 results.  Have you ever heard, “Let me pray about that and IF it is God’s will then…” are statements you are apt to hear from well-intentioned believers.   John MacArthur clears this ‘mystery’ up for us.

“Some apparently think that God’s will is lost. At least they say they are searching for it! To them, God must appear to be a sort of divine Easter bunny who has stashed His will, like eggs, somewhere out of sight and sent us running through life trying to find it. And He is up there saying, “You’re getting warmer!”  Others offer the suggestion that God’s will is to be found via a traumatic experience. Running down the street, you fall on a banana peel and land on a map of India. Immediately you say to the Lord, “Thank You for that clear leading. I understand! India it is!” Or there is always the voice out of heaven or the vision in your dreams calling you to Chile.”

Take notice – God’s Will has been found and MacArthur gently, boldly, and scripturally reminds us that we are no longer emaciated Christians, we truly can figure out what God’s will is!

What I like about MacArthur is he is succinct, precise, and expositional in his teaching.  This topic and the 5 guidelines of finding God’s will are very precise and each builds on the other.

I regularly recommend the outline MacArthur provides when I someone states they are wondering what God’s will is, or how mysterious it is in their life.  MacArthur saturates us with scripture describing each of the five clarifications exposing the elusive message from God for us all.  What is God’s will?

“God’s will is that you be saved, Spirit-filled, sanctified, submissive, and suffering. God’s Word makes all this clear.”

The outline of the book describes well the rest of the topics also discussed.

          1.      Is God a Cosmic Killjoy?
          2.      The Crucial First Step
          3.      The Fizzie principal
          4.      The Priority of Purity
          5.      Silencing the Critics
          6.      Facing the Flak
          7.      You’re It

This small book (or 2-cd audio) is short enough to complete in under an hour.  I listened to it 3x over three days on the way to work.  It is a great resource for those that seeking this topic (because God rewards those that seek Him right?).  I highly recommend this book for those who want to have peace about ‘God’s Will’ and who want to disciple others with this peace as well.  The narrator also was very clear and will keep your attention, I highly recommend it. So God’s will is no longer a mystery for me and will no longer be for you either.

“You see, the will of God is not primarily a place. The will of God is not, first of all, for you to go there or work here. The will of God concerns you as a person. If you are the right you, you can follow your desires and you will fulfill His will.  “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2 http://www.esvapi.org/assets/play.swf?myUrl=hw%2F45012001-45012002(ESV)).  And whatever happens in your life, along the way give thanks, for “this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 http://www.esvapi.org/assets/play.swf?myUrl=hw%2F52005018(ESV)). He’s using it to shape you into His will.”
